The Virtual Detectival Have Been Postponed Until 19th/20th December

Important Update (December 15, 2020): The Virtual Detectival is canceled! The content below is no longer relevant. The money will be returned to the participants.

The dates of the festival have been changed until 19th/20th December due to the technical issues.

Here is the official message:

Firstly, we would like to apologise for the disruption encountered with the game today.

We experienced an unprecedented influx of visitors to the website exceeding 1,000,000 connections within a 45 minute time period, which, even for the substantial server space we have, brought the game to a standstill.

This was then exasperated by people continually refreshing the page in an effort to reload it.

In view of the fact we need to restore this to a level by where we can be confident this issue will not arise again, we have made the decision to postpone the event until next weekend (19th/20th December).

We do appreciate how everyone had been looking forward to this weekend and how some may not have the availability to attend next week, and although we do specify clearly in our terms that refunds due to technical issues are not available, we are going to override that element and offer refunds to those who wish to claim them.

What we would like to confirm however, is that we will be increasing the prizes in next weeks rescheduled event for those that are happy to continue to support us in this as gesture of good will in view of todays issues.

We hope you understand this technical problem was beyond our control and we did make an incredible effort this morning to resolve it.

We will still be on The BIG Detecting Show this evening to discuss todays issues.

We look forward to seeing you with us next week and again, apologise for today.

Thank you for your support.

I would like to express my personal support to the festival team because I know from my own experience that sometimes those issues happen even with huge platforms. It is simply impossible to guarantee that the server would not be dropped when so many people attend.

No worries, and don’t panic. I hope that next weekend, everything will be fine.
